Dual Lock is not an adhesive but a reversible mechanical fastener. Two strips covered with polypropylene mushroom heads interlock and lock together. You separate them whenever you want, and reclose them hundreds of times.

Dual Lock or hook and loop

Hook and loop, Velcro type, separates by peeling with little effort and tolerates poor alignment. It is flexible and copes poorly with pure tension.

Mushroom-head Dual Lock locks much more firmly and resists perpendicular pull well. It gives a clear snap when locking, which confirms engagement. In return, it requires correct alignment and firm pressure.

Stem density

It is the main setting of the range. The higher the density, the stronger the bond, and the more force is needed to separate it. The two faces can be of different densities: combining a high and a low density gives an intermediate hold, which allows fine adjustment of the removal force.

Fixing to the substrate remains the weak point

The mechanical bond between the two strips is very strong. What fails is almost always the adhesive between the strip and the substrate. VHB rules therefore apply in full: clean and degreased surface, firm pressing down, application above fifteen degrees, and strength build-up over several days before the first load.
