Polyethylene foam is closed-cell, economical and watertight. A double-sided tape on PE foam fixes light items, takes up a gap and closes off an air path, without claiming to carry a load.

PE, PU or acrylic

PE foam is closed and stiff. It is watertight and cheap, but it compresses little and does not carry a lasting load.

PU foam is softer and compresses more. It takes up flatness defects and suits irregular surfaces.

Acrylic foam is viscoelastic: it absorbs stresses instead of transmitting them. It is the only one of the three suited to a lasting structural bond, outdoors or under vibration.

Pressing down is still necessary

Like any pressure-sensitive adhesive, this one does not bond on simple contact. Without pressure, the real contact area is only a fraction of the apparent area. And below about fifteen degrees, the adhesive does not wet properly.
