A safety shoe is worn ten hours a day. Comfort is therefore not an optional extra: an uncomfortable shoe gets taken off or left loosely fastened, and then it no longer protects.

Reading a classification
The letter S followed by a number sums up the protections. S1 adds a closed heel area and antistatic properties to the safety toecap. S1P adds a penetration-resistant midsole. S3 adds water resistance and a cleated outsole.
The SRC marking concerns slip resistance, tested on soapy tiles and on oily steel. In a workshop where the floor can be greasy, it is often more decisive than the rest.
Penetration-resistant midsole: steel or textile
A steel midsole protects over the whole area and costs less. It is rigid, heavy and conducts cold.
A textile midsole is lighter, more flexible and is not a thermal bridge. It sometimes covers a slightly smaller area depending on the model.
For daily wear, the difference in fatigue at the end of the day is clear.
