Why this does not apply to every disc

An ordinary cut-off wheel is thin and has no lateral strength. Grinding flat with it loads it in the only direction in which it can take nothing: it is a classic cause of bursting.

A two-in-one disc is designed with reinforcement and a thickness that allow it to accept lateral force. This versatility must appear explicitly on the label; it can never be assumed.

Its real benefit

The gain is not in pure performance, as a specialised disc remains better in its own field. It is in time: fewer tool changes, fewer references to manage, and above all no more temptation to grind with a cut-off wheel because it is already fitted.
